Amongst Our Own Dear People, Lord

from Hymns in the Time of Lockdown by Pete Brazier

/

about

A hymn based on the account of the sending out of the disciples in Matthew 10.

lyrics

Amongst our own dear people, Lord,
Please teach us how to tell,
The stories of your only son,
In words of faith and love.
Across this land whose ways we know,
Please teach us how to move,
With nothing in our pockets, Lord,
But truth to share with all.

Then show us how to keep your task,
Forever in our sights,
And never be distracted by,
The obstacles we meet.
O let us not come to a halt,
When we may sadly fail;
Not every soul is ours to win,
But we can play our part.

One day we'll see your glory, Lord,
Your plan in all its form,
And though the task has wearied us,
The value will be clear.
And when we stand amongst our friends,
From every land and time,
With all who shared the work we did,
Then we shall sing as one.
