Wisdom (The Shape of Truth)

This is the first real non hymn song that I've written for a good long while. It has a lot of obscure and specific references to the wisdom literature of the Old Testament - if you can pinpoint them all you'll probably win a prize or something. It also links these wisdom themes with my studies into Fractal Theology. The original recording was done in my sabbatical tent with an acoustic guitar and two microphones. I've been working on that recording for a few weeks in free moments. This is what I came up with.

And what is the shape of truth?
Did you know her in your youth?
Can you make out her silhouette?
You’ve forgotten now, I bet
Where is wisdom to be found?
Is she down there in the ground?
And could you recognise her voice,
If you had to make a choice?

Not just the endgame, also the wire frame
Not just the outer skin, also the truth within
Not just iteration, also base equation
Is she alive, is wisdom breathing?

And what is the sum of days?
What is the product of our ways?
What is the good we leave behind?
What fruits out-live our human mind?
Does dark liner paint her eye;
Her beauty catching passers-by?
Does wisdom walk upon the earth?
And would we recognise her worth?

Not just a cover, old song: new lover
Not just surface tension, but H20’s invention
Not just one occasion, but every permutation
She is alive, her truth repeating

What is truth? How does she sing?
How did that melody begin?
And when will we recall the tune?
I only hope it’s coming soon.
What shape has wisdom found?
What patterns form beneath the ground?
Come shoot of green into the light,
And bring to end the darkest night

Not just anaesthesia, but true ecclesia
Not just copied word, but inner essence heard
Not just cold tradition, inside a deeper mission
We seek her truth, her wisdom healing
