The Entry to the Holy City

about

A Hymn for Palm Sunday

lyrics

1. The entry to the holy city
On a donkey, in that hour,
Was an act of open challenge,
To the ones who held the power.

Hosanna in the highest heaven;
Jesus you have come to save.
Blessèd in the name of God and
Blessed to lift us from the grave.

2. The politics of such a moment;
Humble love and strength combined;
Not a passive bowing down, but
Sacrificial love defined

3. The recognised symbolic action,
Of the lowly, righteous king;
Known by those who knew the prophets,
Sung by those who psalms would sing.

4. The declaration of a kingship;
Crownless and without a court;
Self defined and self denying;
Freedom found and costly bought.
